Product Description

A rail shoulder is a pre-inserted item in the concrete sleepers, no matter for single stem type or twin stem type, used to fix the elastic rail clips, mainly e-clips, within the fastening system.

Two types of rail shoulders for rail clips are available: cast in shoulder and weld-on shoulder.

Casting Rail Shoulders

Cast in Shoulder is made by casting from iron, and such shoulder is used by being pre-embedded in the concrete sleepers and works with the elastic clip to fasten the rail.

Materials for cast in shoulder include: M.C.I. shoulder by malleable iron and S.G.C.I. shoulder by malleable iron and S.G.C.I. shoulder by spheroid graphite iron. Other materials available: QT600-3, QT700-2, ZG25, ZG35, ZG45, and more.

Standards: GB/T 1348-1988, NF EN 1563(1997), ISO1038, DIN 1693, JIS G5502 (2001), KS D 4302, GOST 7293(1985) or BS EN 1563(1997).

Weld-on Shoulder

Weld-on shoulder is made by hot forging, used for places where standard sleepers are unable to be easily used. The shoulders are welded on the flat steel base plates to fabricate the rail retaining units on both the steel ties and base plates, according to AREMA standard.

Weld-on shoulders can be applied for Pandrol style clips with a range of 30lbs to 113lbs.

Special Rail Shoulder

Produced by hot forging, these are used together with rail clip bolts and special rail clips to fasten the rail, with materials of low or mid carbon steels.

Technical Description: Wheel Set

The wheel set is a key component of the Railway Bogie and the most important spare part in the railway industry. One wheel set contains two wheels, one axle, and two bearings. Depending on application, parts like gears, brake discs, and axle boxes can be included.

They are used on wagons, locomotives, passenger cars, and more. Configuration depends on vehicle and bogie performance parameters.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the primary function of a rail shoulder? Rail shoulders are pre-inserted into concrete sleepers to fix elastic rail clips (like e-clips) within the fastening system, ensuring the rail remains securely attached to the sleepers.
What materials are used for casting rail shoulders? Casting shoulders are typically made from malleable iron or spheroid graphite iron (S.G.C.I.). Common grades include QT500, QT600-3, and QT700-2.
When should a weld-on shoulder be used instead of a cast-in shoulder? Weld-on shoulders are used in locations where standard concrete sleepers are not suitable, requiring the shoulders to be welded directly onto flat steel base plates or steel ties.
Which international standards do your rail shoulders follow? Our products comply with several global standards, including BS EN 1563, GB/T 1348, NF EN 1563, ISO1038, and AREMA for weld-on types.
What are the components of a standard railway wheelset? A standard wheel set consists of two wheels, one axle, and two bearings. It may also include specialized parts like gears or brake discs depending on the application.
Can special rail shoulders be customized? Yes, special rail shoulders can be produced via hot forging using low or mid-carbon steels to work with specific rail clip bolts and specialized fastening systems.
